Free! swimming anime announces all new film, to be released in two parts


In celebration of Free! swimming anime’s eighth anniversary, Kyoto Animation announced in their recent livestream that the franchise will be making its long-awaited return as an anime film, entitled Free! The Final Stroke.

The new film will be released in two-parts. The first film will make its release in Japan on September 17, 2021, and the second on April 22, 2022.

The film will be directed by returning Free! veteran, Eisaku Kawanami. Also, Nobunaga Shimazaki is confirmed to reprise his role as the anime’s protagonist Haruka Nanase.

The franchise’s most recent entry was “Free! -Road to the World- Yume” released in 2019, which retells the story from Dive to the Future series.
