E3 2021: Nintendo makes surprise announcement of Advance Wars 1+2 Re-Boot Camp

Roughly 20 years to this day, Advance Wars is making a comeback for the Nintendo Switch in the form of one game bundle: Advance Wars 1+2 Re-Boot Camp.

The game bundles together two iconic Advance Wars games, AW1 and AW2: Black Hole Rising, originally made for the Game Boy Advance. This Re-Boot Camp release for the Switch is a remake totally overhauled from the ground up. Developers Wayforward have reworked the visuals to a more animated version, with maps and settings looking more like a board game with Monopoly pieces. The games still retain all of the original campaigns/missions, but this new version adds 4-player local versus mode, and 4-player online play as well.

Advance Wars 1+2 Re-Boot Camp will be released on December 3, 2021, with pre-orders already opened.

Advance Wars 1 and 2 are part of the original Famicom Wars franchise of military-themed turn-based strategy games. The two games were originally received with unanimous positive response and critical acclaim, and have even been considered as one of the greatest video games of all time.
