Nintendo Direct’s E3 2021 is a chock full of surprises. Apart from a new Warioware, and Metroid game, another highly anticipated game finally has a release date and a gameplay demo after it was first teased together with the Nintendo Switch reveal back in 2016: Shin Megami Tensei V.
The announcement trailer and the gameplay demo from the Treehouse Live featured a lot of visual changes for Shin Megami Tensei V. The demons are beautifully rendered in 3DCG, complete with complex movement animations and voice-overs. The maps are now wide, sandboxed, and visibly littered with random encounters and NPCs. Even the UI is refreshed to a cleaner and more modern look. The game definitely maximized the use of the Unreal Engine. Meanwhile, most of the SMT elements have been largely retained, like the Press Turn System, Demon Fusions, and negotiations.
Shin Megami Tensei V is slated for a November 12, 2021 release, exclusive to the Nintendo Switch.
