Ubisoft’s E3 2021 conference included the announcement of a new Mario+Rabbids game, with a cinematic trailer and a gameplay demo in tow.
The new Mario+Rabbids: Sparks of Hope featured the introduction of the game’s new allies called the Sparks, a hybrid combination of Rabbids and the Lumas. The characters from the Super Mario and the Rabbids franchise are up against a new villain called Cursa, who seems to be out to absorb Sparks’ energies to enact a plan of chaos across the galaxy. The cinematic trailer also features Rabbid Rosalina as a new character.
According to Ubisoft, the turn-based combat system will be “easy to play, hard to master.” Gone is the grid-based movement and is taken over by a more free-flowing movement style. However, the gameplay and the tactics are still largely retained from the original game.
The announcement comes less than a day after the game was accidentally leaked in the Nintendo eShop. Sparks of Hope is the second game in the Mario+Rabbids franchise. The first of which, Kingdom Battle, was released in 2017 and received unanimously positive reviews and critical acclaim for its humor and innovative gameplay.
Mario+Rabbids: Sparks of Hope will be released exclusively for the Nintendo Switch in 2022.
