In a report by Variety, Cartoon Network’s sisterly superhero trio, The Powerpuff Girls, has a live-action series in development over at The CW.
The live-action series will reportedly tell the story of Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup as twenty-something young adults who now resent having lost most of their childhood to crime-fighting.
The series will be executive produced by Heather Regnier and Diablo Cody (writer for Juno, and Jennifer’s Body). Greg Berlanti (Arrow, Flash, Supergirl, and the rest of the Arrowverse series in The CW) Sarah Schechter, and David Madden are also executive producers over at Berlanti Productions. Written by Berlanti and Cody, the series will be produced by Warner Bros.
The original series, animated over at Cartoon Network, was created by Craig McCracken. The show ran for six seasons from 1998 to 2005, with 78 episodes. “The Powerpuff Girls Movie” later premiered in 2002 amid the series’ popularity. The rebooted animated series began airing on Cartoon Network in 2016.
