Studio Ghibli is diving head-first into 3DCG movies with its first full-length film “Aya to Majo” (Aya and the Witch). While a trailer and cast list have yet to pop up (as of this posting), the first screenshots of the movie have been released, showcasing the typical Studio Ghibli art style but fully transformed into bright-looking 3D models.
The film is based off “Earwig and the Witch” book by Dianne Wynne Jones. Hayao Miyazaki is in charge of planning the adaptation, while his son Goro Miyazaki is at the directorial helm, and Toshio Suzuki as the producer.
Aya to Majo will air on NHK in Japan this Winter 2020.
