Chinese conglomerate Tencent Holdings now owns the rights for developing System Shock 3.

In a short post by OtherSide Entertainment, the development of the third System Shock game was a challenge as “smaller indie studio.”

We are happy to announce that Tencent will be taking the System Shock franchise forward. As a smaller Indie studio, it had been challenging for us to carry the project on our own. We believe Tencent’s deep capabilities and expertise as a leading game company will bring the franchise to new heights.

OtherSide Entertainment was formed by Paul Neurath, co-founder of the Looking Glass Studios, which developed the original two System Shock games. After the closure of Looking Glass, Neurath launched OtherSide to develop the Ultima Underworld sequel “Underworld: Ascendant.” News of System Shock 3 first came out in late 2015 when OtherSide Entertainment made the initial announcement. However, the original publisher, Starbreeze Studios, re-sold the System Shock rights back to OtherSide due to financial troubles.
