One of the world’s largest fighting-game community events, EVO, has recently announced its next event as an alternative to its yearly gathering amid the current global situation.
EVO Online will be EVO’s online-only replacement for this year’s annual FGC gathering, spread over five weekends over the month of July 2020. Despite its online presence, the event will provide “special exhibitions and content” from the previously-selected fighting game lineup. However, it’s worth noting that the trailer has removed Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Marvel vs. Capcom 2 from the lineup.
Additional open online tournaments will also be held for Mortal Kombat 11, Killer Instinct, Them’s Fightin’ Herds, and Skullgirls: 2nd Encore.
Registration and more event details will follow soon. EVO Online is scheduled to air on the following dates:
- July 4-5
- July 11-12
- July 18-19
- July 25-26
- July 31-August 2
EVO was originally scheduled for July 31-August 2, 2020 at Mandalay Bay before the organizers announced its cancellation on May 2nd due to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis. Following the cancellation, ticket and hotel reservations were automatically refunded, while pre-registration refund options were also provided for participants.
