Haikyuu!! anime OVA and Season 4 dates announced


Popular volleyball sports anime, Haikyuu!!, is making its return next year as a two-episode Original Video Animation (OVA) and its highly-anticipated fourth season. The announcement was made during the Haikyu!! no Hi Zenjitsu-Sai event on Sunday, revealing details about both projects.

The OVA will feature the Tokyo Qualifiers in the episodes “Riku vs. Kuu” and “Ball no Michi.” The teams Nekoma, Fukurodani, Nohebi and Itachiyama will take the spotlight in these two special episodes, and will chronicle their journey as they vie for the top three Tokyo spots in the Nationals.

Advance sales of the OVA can be found at the Jump Festa 2020 event this coming December 21-22, 2019. Japan-wide retail release of the Blu-Ray and DVD will be on January 22, 2019.

Meanwhile, Haikyuu!! season four will also be premiering on January 2020 at the Super Animeism timeslot on MBS. Also in the announcement is the addition of a new character to debut in the latest season, Nohebi Academy’s Captain, Suguru Daisho (voiced by Kazuyuki Okitsu).

Updated designs of Kenma Kozume, Tetsurou Kuroo, Kotaro Bokuto, and Keiiji Akaashi have also been presented during the event.

Haikyuu!! is the brain child of mangaka Haruichi Furudate, and has been serialized in Weekly Shounen Jump since February 2012. The franchise has also been made into a series of stage plays, with its seventh run concluding on May 2019.
