Seoul Comic Con was held during the weekend, from August 2-4, 2019, at the COEX Exhibition Center in Seoul, South Korea. In one of the panels, “The Potential of K-Webtoon IP,” representatives from Naver Webtoon, Daum Webtoon, and Studio Dragon discussed the possibilities and ramifications of turning their IPs into an animated or live-action adaptations.

During the talks, Naver Webtoon Business Manager, Lee Hee-Yun, indicated that translating webtoons into a different format is a challenge and hard to imagine. He countered, however, that despite the challenge, two of Naver’s famous and long-running webtoons, Tower of God, and Noblesse, are currently being developed into an animated format. Lee Hee-Yun did not divulge any more details about the said animated adaptation, but expect more news soon.

Tower of God is a webtoon published on Naver, and has been running since 2010, created by Lee Jong-Hui (under the pseudonym SIU). The series is currently nearing 440 issues as of this posting.

Noblesse is also a webtoon that was published on Naver, created by Son Jeho, and illustrated by Lee Kwangsu. It ran from 2007 to January 2019, and had two original video animations in 2015 and 2016.
