The live-action adaptation of the popular manga series Saint Young Men is set to premiere this fall on Kakao Japan’s new Piccoma TV streaming service. The official website of the live-action adaptation currently has a visual and a VR video available. The show stars Ken’ichi Matsuyama as Jesus and Shōta Sometani as Buddha. Takayuki Yamada is the producer, and Yūichi Fukuda is the director and scriptwriter.
Hikaru Nakamura first launched the Saint Young Men manga in Morning Two in 2006. The story is focused on the lives of Buddha and Jesus in a low-rent Tokyo apartment. Kodansha shipped the manga’s 14th compiled volume in September 2017. It also inspired an anime film that premiered in Japan in May 2013. The manga also won the Short Story award at the 13th Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize in 2009, and got nominated for a Manga Taisho award.
