New visual of the upcoming Gintama live-action sequel reveals the return of three familiar characters and a possible hint of the movie’s plot.
The three characters returning for the sequel are members of the Shinsengumi, namely
- Toushirou Hijikata, portrayed by Yuuya Yagira (Tadashi in Hentai Kamen)
- Kondou Isao, portrayed by Kankuro Nakamura VI (Sasuke in Sanada 10 Braves)
- and Okita Sougo, played by Ryo Yoshizawa (Kamen Rider Meteor in Kamen Rider Fourze)
Noticeable in the visual is Kondou’s sword with a paint roller by the handle’s edge, signifying it to be the Kotetsu Z-II. The said sword was seen prominently during the Shinsengumi Crisis Arc in the Gintama manga and anime series. We can surmise that the live-action sequel will also reflect the same arc, with Hijikata taking center stage as he takes possession of a cursed sword.
The tentatively-titled “Gintama 2” film will also see the return of Shun Oguri as the lead character Gintoki Sakata, Masaki Suda (Philip from Kamen Rider W) as Shimpachi Shimura, and Kanna Hashimoto as Kagura. Yuichi Fukuda is once again at the directorial helm for this second outing.
Gintama 2 is scheduled for an August 17, 2018 release in Japan. No word on an international release yet.
