In a surprise announcement, the former Sonic Team lead and one of the programmers of the original Sonic the Hedgehog for the Sega Genesis, Yuji Naka, is now officially part of Square Enix’s game development team.
The short announcement was made public via Naka’s official Twitter. Details are scarce regarding his upcoming work at Square Enix.
Just a quick note to let you know, I joined SQUARE ENIX in January.
I’m joining game development as before, and strive to develop games at SQUARE ENIX.
I aim to develop an enjoyable game, please look forward to it.

Naka had his big break in 1991 after programming the first Sonic the Hedgehog game for Sega Genesis, which led to more of the blue blur’s sequels. He left Sega in 2006 and started his own independent studio, Prope, which includes Digimon All-Star Rumble for the PS3 and Xbox 360 under its belt.
