Sega is cashing in on the console nostalgia right behind the heels of the NES Mini and the Playstation Mini.

During the Sega Fes 2019, Sega has unveiled the upcoming release of a mini version of their iconic 16-bit console. The international/English version will be the Sega Genesis Mini, while the Japanese version gets the Mega Drive Mini.

The Genesis/Mega Drive Mini will have 40 games each preinstalled on the console. The 40 games will differ on each of the versions. Sega has unveiled the first 10 games for the Genesis Mini:

  • Sonic the Hedgehog
  • Ecco the Dolphin
  • Castlevania: Bloodlines
  • Space Harrier II
  • Shining Force
  • Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine
  • ToeJam & Earl
  • Comix Zone
  • Altered Beast
  • Gunstar Heroes

And the first 10 games for the Mega Drive Mini:

  • Sonic the Hedgehog 2
  • Puyo Puyo Tsu
  • Shining Force
  • Vampire Killer
  • Wrestleball
  • Gunstar Heroes
  • Comix Zone
  • Rent A Hero
  • Space Harrier II
  • Madou Monogatari I

The Genesis/Mega Drive Mini package includes the console, a pair of the iconic Genesis wired controllers, a power brick, USB cable, and an HDMI cable. The mini console is 55% smaller than the original 16-bit unit. Unfortunately, the mini units won’t be backwards compatible with the original Genesis controllers.

The Genesis/Mega Drive Mini will be released on September 19, 2019, and will cost US$79.99 SRP.
