A summary of Square Enix’s E3 2018 Presentation

0

It looks like a lull year for Square Enix, as their E3 2018 presentation was nothing but a bunch of trailers from already-announced games. Unlike the previous years, the presentation this time only lasted 30 minutes without any bells and whistles you’d come to expect from an E3 presentation. Depressing presentations aside, here’s what Square Enix showed during their timeslot.

Shadows of the Tomb Raider

The latest gameplay video was already presented during Microsoft’s E3 2018 Conference. The third installment of the rebooted Tomb Raider franchise sports a lot more stealth action through tree climbing, bush hiding, and mud wrapping. The game also has the largest hubs in any Tomb Raider game, plus more tombs to raid. Be the Tomb Raider on September 14, 2018 for the Playstation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

Babylon’s Fall

This is a new game being developed by PlatinumGames, Inc. Scarce details, but it’ll be out in 2019 for the Playstation 4 and PC via Steam.

Just Cause 4 gameplay

Rico Rodriguez is back, and he’s out to liberate a new fictional country set in South America. The gameplay demo for Just Cause 4 showed a new environment dynamic to the game in the form of extreme weather. Tornados, blizzards, sandstorms, and sheets of lightning are only a few of the extreme weather conditions that players will encounter. Tornados can easily decimate structures, while blizzards and sandstorms can cause zero visibility. There’s also an improved grappling hook, new vehicles, and better enemy AI with different combat tactics. The game will be out on December 4, 2018 for the Playstation 4, Xbox One, and PC via Steam.

The Quiet Man

This new IP is a cinematic action game with a deaf man for a protagonist. The short teaser seamlessly transitioned from live-action to CG in just a few frames. More details about The Quiet Man will be revealed in August 2019. But at least we know it’s only for Playstation 4 and PC via Steam.

Other games shown during the presentation were: Final Fantasy XIV’s latest patch Under the Moonlight, and the game’s collaboration with Monster Hunter World (new costumes!!); The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit, which will be out on June 26 for free; Octopath Traveler for the Nintendo Switch; and Dragon Quest XI. Oh… and Kingdom Hearts III too. Back at the Microsoft E3 Conference, there’s also NieR: Automata’s Become as Gods Edition.

Sorry, no Final Fantasy VII Remake news here, or any Final Fantasy XV updates either. You can watch the full presentation at the top.
