Sony Interactive Entertainment confirmed with Game*Spark’s website that the company will stop producing Playstation Vita game cards in the Americas and Europe by March 2019. The game cards’ production will still continue in Japan. PS Vita owners in other regions can still buy games digitally. The company still plans to continue “marketing activities” in terms of Playstation Vita console production.
Sony informed developers about their plan to end all Vita Game Card production, and requested to submit all product code requests by June 28, 2018. The company also asked to have all final purchase orders be submitted by February 15, 2019. Playstation Vita launched in Japan on December 17, 2011. It was released across Asia, and the West on February 22, 2012. It has sold more than 1.2 million units worldwide since February 26, 2012.
