Sega announced today a surprising entry into their library of Playstation games. In a presentation held in Japan, the game company revealed that their 2009 mecha arcade game, Border Break: Sega Network Robot Wars, will be coming to the Playstation 4. Simply titled Border Break, the game will be free-to-play with microtransactions.
Border Break’s gameplay focuses on 10-vs-10 online mecha arena battles. Players can customize different parts of their mecha, and obtain new weapons and parts via random draws earned or bought through microtransactions. Players can use four different weapons: Assault, Heavy Fire, Raid, and Support.
The game also has four different modes: Story Mode, Beginners Match, Casual Match, and Ranked Match. Beginners match will pit you against AI-controlled enemies, and provide you with AI allies as well. Casual match will be your typical arcade, unranked mode; while ranked matches determine your leaderboard placement.
Border Break has a robust story mode, led by three main characters:
- Hatii (VA: Reina Ueda)
- Mikoto (VA: Rie Takahashi)
- Managaru (VA: Shunsuke Takeuchi)
Full trailer and game description can be found in the video above. The game’s theme song is entitled “Amazing Trees” by SawanoHiroyuki[nZk], Sawano Hiroyuki’s vocal project, with Tielle in vocals.
Border Break is set to release this year, with no definite date yet. Open beta will be made available starting February 2018, accessible to all PS4 users with or without PS+ subscriptions.
